“You don't just make a photograph with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have ever seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”
Hello, I am Brienne,
Thanks for visiting my tiny slice of the world! When you hire a photographer, you are hiring an individual with a unique perspective. In a world with so many amazing artists out there, it is important to know who you are choosing and the inspiration behind their work. So here is a bit about me.
I am the youngest and only girl in my family. We were military kids, raised all over the world and introduced to a wide variety of cultures. My parents instilled in us a deep affinity for culture and respect for diversity in race, opinion, beliefs, religions, history, etc. They also encouraged a love for the arts and gave me my first camera when I was eleven. They humored me as I paraded around the house capturing all sorts of family drama and oddities. I quickly became the family documentarian, a role that I still carry today.
As a young woman, I served in the military for five years. I am immensely proud of my military service and will always be grateful and humbled by the experience. During that time, I met and married my awesome husband. We shared an affinity for photography, music, deep conversation, and the outdoors. He is a gem of a human being, keeps me laughing, and is both a wonderful partner and parent. We are blessed with three beautiful wild things (masquerading as children) that keep us on our toes. We live and love our nomad military lifestyle, moving on to new adventures every two to three years.
My inspiration...
As a parent, I am challenged daily to open my eyes to new perspectives, new worlds, and new ideas; boulders become trolls and, in every tree, there is a fairy den. In their collections of rocks, snails, and "treasures," my children remind me to embrace the little and simple beauties of the world. I love documenting all their little oddities: the way they scrunch their noses before they sneeze, sleepily rub their eyes, and how their chubby hands grasp at pinecones.
It is in these everyday moments that I find the most inspiration and beauty - both as a parent and as an artist. I know that unlike the bags under my eyes, this season of misplaced keys will be missed; and that any photographs taken of the time will be held onto and treasured deeply.
I cannot tell you how many times I have wished that someone else was a fly on the wall, capturing our entire family in action: the cuddles with Mama and Daddy, the crowded bath times, diaper changes, around the clock feeding, temper tantrums, tears, giggles, and games. There is so much exhaustion and love that goes into creating, growing, and raising a human being. I feel quite lucky to have these little humans of ours...even when they steal toilet brushes, bedazzle the computer with crayon, and attempt to flush socks down the toilet.
It is true what they say, the days are long, but the years are short. Babies don't keep. Children grow into eye rolling teenagers and if lucky, parents transform into grandparents.
I want my children to look back at their albums and see not only wonderful candid images of their childhoods, but real images with the parents that loved them, wholeheartedly, however imperfectly.
Which brings me to YOU and YOUR unique, beautiful family.
I want to capture what is authentic and genuine about you and those you love; your unique brand of family, motherhood, and parenting.
If any of this speaks to your heart, I would be honored to document your story.
All the big and little moments, and all the everyday, ordinary details in between.
Brie-bits
- I cannot make it through Homeward Bound without bawling my eyes out.
- I have a talent for mixing up idioms. "Nip it in the butt," "Tickle my applecart," and "run with the punches" are just three examples my husband loves teasing me about.
- Ice cream is my favorite snack, meal, and dessert.
- I have multiple matching nightgowns with my Grandma. She made matching mumus each summer and they are still my favorite jammies.
- I love drawing dead trees. I like to pretend this is intentional but I actually just stink at drawing leaves.
- I am a lifelong, forever friend to the Oxford comma, as it is and will always be stylistic, relevant, gold.
- Our favorite family activities include adventuring outdoors and poorly planned road trips.
- I love the Killers, Aerosmith, and nineties alternative music but cannot remember a song title for the life of me.
